Watch someone post fanart: internet explodes with mindless squealing.
Post original art: Silence.
Don’t get me wrong. I like fanart. Sometimes. I used to produce quite a bit of fanart. I still do, for the things that I like (none of which I share,) or if it’s commissioned….
And that’s what so sad about it, hon. YOUR art is awesome. And, you’re right, it is a little soul-crushing every time you put something out there that you’ve put part of your soul into only to get nothing when random fanart is squeed all over like it’s the greatest thing that ever did thing.
Thanks sweetie. I think I’ve come to a zen place about it. I don’t sell art anymore, I haven’t done dealer’s room at Y-con since 2006, I don’t post my originals, I don’t invest my feelings into what I share on the internet. So I’m not upset if something I love and put days worth of effort into ends up getting zero feedback. I don’t offer it to the wolves in the first place. I got back to personal basics and draw things for me, and if I do want to draw fanart I will, but I don’t spend any time on it, no more than a few hours to a day. I don’t invest much into fanart, I do it for a lark, a sketch here and there and I give myself a chuckle and some mindless fun-time but if people think it’s shit My feelings aren’t hurt. I’ve noticed with fanart you’ll either get no comments, nothing but mindless comments or nothing but hater/trolls. Fanart brings out the best and WORST of people. So If I just have a laugh, don’t waste too much effort, time or resources then my stress is gone and I don’t worry about people ripping apart (Or completely ignoring) the art I *DO* give a shit about.
